War On the USA

I've been surfing blogs for an hour or so. Coincidence perhaps, but I hit a streak of half a dozen or so blogs that have a counter which runs something like "1,xxx days since war was declared on the United States of America".

No prizes for guessing which date is being referred to, and no prizes either for guessing that these blogs tend to be written by right wingers.

Are these people complete cretins? War was declared on the USA a long time before the 11th of September attacks. How about November 4th, 1979?

I assume that all of those who voted for Bush will accept that the current threat to US homeland security is the price to pay for US intervention in the affairs of other sovereign states? The real tragedy is that it will be the working classes (both civilians and the those in the services) who will bear the brunt of any casualties, goodness forbid.

Oh, I don't know, Darling. I rock; oh yes I do. And you would probably look better without the t-shirt on. Lemme help you out of it...

For those of a right wing disposition, the website that I've taken the picture from has all sorts of "goodies". Go and take a look, please buy some stuff from them and give me a laugh (I'm laughing at you, not your t-shirt).

Cute photo, but Kenny, my good man, the lady has a point! It seems that the Left in America at least hasn't been terribly sexy since around 1975 (and in Germany, which is the main place I travel to in Europe, since at the latest 1985) - which is surprising given the inbuilt romance of the revolutionary. And while I'll admit that I haven't looked at ALL of your political links, some of those Marxist ones look downright stoddy. Turgid articles on Marxist theory? Geriatric members of the International Brigades? Come on - the Revolution may not be televised, but ist should at least be sexy. I want to see young people - attractive ones too! Cool badges, pins, shirts, bandannas and posters! Good art, etc.! And while somewhat tongue in cheek, I'm not being sarcastic! :)

Respect as always,

Ah. Warlord. Nice to see you in the 'hood.

As always, your sense of sartorial elegance is one step ahead of my own. But I take it that you wouldn't be that interested in reading my latest missive on Marx, dialectical materialism and monetary theory? No. Thought not!

cheers

Kenny

I am interested in reading such, very much so! Just mischievously making the point once again that post-Soviet socialism is still confronted with the problem of appearing to be a fossil, which is surely not good PR for any revolutionary or progressive force. :)

I guess I should amend my comments a bit to at least reflect the 80's. I remember when I was entering junior high school there was still quite a buzz about the Clash's Sandinista album (which I still have on vinyl) and as a result a number of the kids became "Sandinistas" for several years - and a number of those were indeed sexy and fun. :P

And I'll note also, if it helps make amends for my mischief, that I'm rather a fan of Hugo Chavez!! :D

No, not at all. Please chuck-in your tuppence worth. The only time I'll delete a post is if I ever receive a personal attck that goes beyond homour.

You are right, though! The Left has focussed for so long on doctrine and political theory. Most Leftist theory is pretty dry stuff, bordering on the impenetrable; kinda like Hegelian philosophy, where only the author understands what s/he is on about!

It's a fine line between substance and style and getting the balance right.

The Clash did a huge amount for class politics in the UK (and mad a ripple in the US from what you have experienced too). But as a wise man sung the "Right Profile" is what we have to beware of; people taking a stance and striking a pose.

It's a tough one; I've played with libertarian politics, free-market monetarist politics (when I was a student) but my conscience always brings me back to Marxism. hat's just how it is for me.

You and your ideas are welcome anytime matey; you know we're tight!
